We are little naive about finance...duh...we have about 300k in
equity in our home and wondered when you release that equity to say buy a holiday/investment property...are you essentially upping your mortgage by that amount?so you actually are paying double maybe triple the repayments....pls explain

I have been looking at equity release, mainly as a way of avoiding inheritance tax!

I looked at a few companies online, Equity Release - Unlock the equity in your home, http://keyrs.co.uk and a company called Hodge. What I learned was that it is not a loan, you are just releasing part of the equity in your home, this gets paid back when the house is sold when you pass away.
