what are normal fees for a real estate agent to sell your house?

Usually, 6% of the price the house actually contracts for.

wow I am really suprised by the answers here? I am in the UK and the agents by me are wanting 1.1/4 - 1.5% of the sold price.. I would have heart failure if I had to give them 5% or more.. where is everyone from?? x

6%. It was going down with the competition, but the housing market is terrible now. It cost a lot of money to advertise,etc. so I probably would go with a realtor. There are tons of houses out there for sale.

ya i completly agree with the claudiacake normally agents charge 6%for the sale of the house.

Well, I also gave 6%. I sold my house last month and purchased a new house in US and invested some of my money in real estate also. I think that 6% that I gave to the agent will be managed soon by the profit I will get in real estate investment.There are many useful factors which make real estate investing so much popular. Now peoples generally investing there money in real estate.
